Carina and Callisto at Harbour Green

Carina and Callisto at Harbour Green form a distinctive pair of buildings on the Vancouver waterfront, creating sail-like images on the water’s edge. With the dramatic waterfront setting, IBI Group led the design and development of both towers to become one of the most prestigious locations in Vancouver.

A distinctive pair of buildings on the Vancouver waterfront, Carina and Callisto at Harbour Green are the first of five towers proposed along Coal Harbour, just west of Canada Place. IBI Group provided architecture and interior design for the 34- and 26-storey towers, set to form the new face of Vancouver.

Façade elements of the buildings curve horizontally and vertically, creating a sail metaphor that reflects the maritime setting. The 3D-curved, four-sided silicone curtain walls represent the billowing sail. The sail stands in stark contrast to the more urban expression of the south elevation with its window wall and concrete slab extensions. The tip of the sail wraps around the west elevation and hides the mechanical equipment on the roof. The tower palettes have been designed deliberately simple to allow the sail and tower massing to stand out.

The glass for all windows is clear, double glazing with a low-E coating, giving it the silvery-blue-grey expression that adds to the nautical theme. The entranceways are marked by glass and aluminum gates, which each have a unique image designed by an acclaimed artist. The expressions range from abstract forms to a representation of sailboats, water, and other images referring to the natural or social setting.

The end result is a dynamic and powerful architectural statement on the Vancouver waterfront.
